Recognizing that companies, governments and their leadership face increasing exposures, liabilities and risks associated with cybersecurity, Roy serves as independent counsel to government officials, municipalities, corporate boards, and board committees on cyber matters, helping them understand and mitigate legal and operational risks/exposures to protect themselves and the companies/constituents they serve.
Roy has served in the roles of both general counsel and chief privacy officer in the corporate sector, which allows him to bring a unique perspective to his work with clients. Roy has essentially “sat in their seat” and understands the challenges that organizations face when it comes to cyber-security and privacy.
Roy has assisted many municipalities and other governmental agencies in both cyber preparedness and incident response efforts. His recent work with the City of Atlanta in responding to their ransomware attack has given him practical knowledge of best practices and lessons learned.
Roy was named as a “Game Changer” in information security by Hub Magazine and a “Cyber Security Visionary” by Black Engineering Magazine. He has been recognized by Legal 500 for his work in middle-market mergers and acquisitions and by Savoy Magazine as one of America’s “Most Influential Lawyers”.

From 1993-1994, Roy was special counsel to the president of the American Bar Association. He also previously served as a special assistant attorney general for the state of Georgia.
Roy chairs the Information Security Society for the Technology Association of Georgia and is on the Advisory Board for the National Technology Security Council, both of which give him valuable insight into the real-world threats facing government and corporate clients.
Roy was recently named to the City of Atlanta CIO Advisory Board to help support the City of Atlanta’s cybersecurity and preparedness efforts.
