Matt directs AI and security research to advance their respective sciences, capture their benefits, and measure their risks. His teams at OpenAI are at the forefront of applying AI for cyber defense, leveraging AI to enhance security operations and address emerging threats. Additionally, Matt's program oversees the OpenAI Cyber Grant Program, whose mission is to improve cyber defense by supporting the research community and initiatives at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity.

Before joining OpenAI, Matt co-founded Agitator LLC, a startup focused on cybersecurity and radio frequency research. His expertise across the full spectrum of security informs his approach. Matt holds an engineering degree from Dartmouth and remains hands-on.
