For an AppSec program to be successful, it needs to be built holistically from the ground up. That means in addition to defining the vision and objectives, setting up the right tools and prioritizing risk, the focus should be on maturing the people aspects of an AppSec program. An AppSec program matures through different levels: Level one is reactive, level two is proactive, level three is optimized and, finally, level four is dynamic. Along with other factors, the talent involved in an AppSec program needs to be strengthened across all levels, too.
