Michael Bowen, Senior Principal Engineer in the Aladdin Product Group and Director of Open Source at BlackRock. BlackRock is the world’s largest investment management company and Aladdin is BlackRock’s end-to-end investment and risk management technology that we use internally to run our business and deliver externally to other financial institutions. The Aladdin platform combines sophisticated risk analytics with comprehensive portfolio management, trading and operations tools on a single platform to power informed decision-making, effective risk management, efficient trading and operational scale. In Mike’s role he focus on the architecture and fabric that underpins Aladdin.

Mr. Bowen also leads the BlackRock Open Source Program Office (OSPO) where he partners with other members of the Tech Ecosystem and representatives from BRS Legal and Compliance IP to deliver on OSPO goals. The OSPO maintains open source license compliance through governance and oversight, guides and enables the organization to work upstream with opens source communities and fosters an open source culture inside the organization.

In addition to his other responsibilities, Mr. Bowen leads the Service Orchestration Council (SOC) that is part of the Enterprise Architecture program. The SOC is focused on defining the guidance and best practices for building, deploying and managing containerized applications and services bound for Kubernetes.


Mike’s service with BlackRock dates back to 2008, including his years with Helix Financial Group LLC which was acquired by BlackRock in 2010.
