This presentation proposes a concrete alternative to proprietary tools for AI coding assistants: Eclipse Theia, a modular open source platform for building Cloud and Desktop IDEs, and Theia AI, a framework designed to integrate AI in an open, transparent, and controllable way into these environments.

We will illustrate this approach through a live demonstration of Theia IDE, a fully AI-native IDE built on Theia. The session will highlight the technical and strategic advantages of a truly open source, neutrally governed infrastructure in the context of today’s pressing challenges around privacy, compliance, and technological autonomy.
