LIVE Fireside Chat with Alan Shimel

Today, we live in a digital world. Most information is now found online, which makes it increasingly difficult to verify the veracity of information. Media sources offer a multiverse of opinions and versions of the same story with essentially no way to distinguish between fact and fiction.Threat actors have been taking advantage of the digital landscape to spread disinformation, propaganda and conspiracy theories to manipulate the public and sow doubt, discord and chaos. We have seen how disinformation can impact elections, and now it is being used to denigrate COVID-19 vaccinations. It is a scourge, with the ability to tear the very fabric of our society. As disinformation campaigns become easier to launch and more targeted, the situation will only get worse. Who, then, will be responsible for protecting against and managing the fallout from disinformation in an organization/society? How can we collectively better understand and distinguish between truth and untruth? In this keynote session, Christopher Krebs, former director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and co-founder of Krebs Stamos Group, explains how to recognize and combat disinformation, what challenges disinformation poses to cybersecurity teams and how public and private partnerships can help.
